In celebration of Earth Day 2026 (April 22), the TREE Foundation invites you to reconnect with the natural world through sound. In an increasingly urban, screen-filled world, many of us overlook the subtle voices of nature all around us.

This unique webinar blends music, science, and storytelling. Hear from renowned canopy ecologist Meg Lowman, soundscape ecologist Bryan Pijanowski, and phytoacoustics & neuro-ecology researcher Yossi Yovel as they explore how sound reveals hidden dimensions of the natural world.

The program also features a live, nature-inspired trumpet performance, a preview of the Symphony for the Earth project, and recordings of plant-generated music and environmental soundscapes from Florida and beyond, including ultrasonic sounds produced by plants under stress.

Additional highlights include a short musical performance by Aaron Kahn and a presentation by Rishik Yellu, a high school student mentored by Meg Lowman, whose photography and research are featured on the TREE Foundation Symphony page.

The event concludes with a discussion on “listening to nature,” exploring how technology and emerging ideas around plant intelligence can deepen our awareness and appreciation of the living world!

Hosted by Dr. Ted Kahn, CEO of DesignWorlds for Learning, Inc.

A Global Symphony for the Earth & Collaborative Citizen Music-Science Festival for Earth Day 2026

TREE is proud to partner with PlantWave, a device that detects the sonoscape of the plant world. Student volunteers are listening to plants, asking questions about plant-communication, and we will be co-hosting an Earth Day event for getting citizens into their gardens to “hear” plants. Stay tuned for more information!

  • Crowd-sourced
  • Eco-Bio-Human-Cosmic Soundscapes from Digital Sonification
  • Use of mobile apps such as MERLIN Bird ID, PlantWave (music from trees and plants), and Voiijer
  • AI-augmented music composed by students, teachers, scientists and musicians and learning/exploration resources via a web-based Learning & Discovery Collaboratory

Student listens to his garden using PlantWave. See the PlantWave Pilot Study Results here.
