Brook Kelela’s honors thesis, “The Clothes of the Church”: The Shared Meanings Around Trees that Drive Forest Conservation in Rural Ethiopia, was recently shared with Dr. Margaret “Meg” Lowman. This research explores how cultural and religious beliefs within the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church shape conservation efforts for the nation’s sacred church forests. Dr. Lowman, a leading advocate for preserving these ecological treasures, continues to champion the integration of science and traditional knowledge in conservation.
