Too simple to revolutionize fruit pickup?
This recent invention is only a wooden press that forces trees to develop a narrow spot in the basis of the trunk. The tree grows during years 2 to 5 until it is ready for fruit collection. When loosening the press, the tree can be shaken by hand. Then, the press is tightened until next year.
Compared to the cost of the current tree-shaking machines and the damage they inflict on the tree, the system described at www.netic.com.ar/bendable-tree looks worth testing.
