TREE Foundation recently received this fascinating video from Stephen Leatherman, also known as “Dr. Beach,” highlighting new scientific interest in Burmese python biology.
While Burmese pythons are widely known as an invasive species impacting Florida’s ecosystems, researchers are also studying unique compounds found in python blood and metabolism for their possible applications in human weight-loss research.
TREE Foundation CEO Meg Lowman also has firsthand experience studying Burmese python invasions in Florida. As a professor at New College, she led a team of students who tracked the northward movement of pythons through Sarasota County, helping detect, remove, and study the snakes while also researching their diets and ecological impacts.
